Sagging upper eyelids make you look older
If you are over the age of 40, you may have noticed that your upper eyelids feel heavier than they used to. This is partially because the eyelids have the thinnest skin in the body and they tend to stretch with age. As an oculoplastic surgeon in NY, I treat aging upper eyelids on a daily basis.
But, sagging upper lids are not always caused by stretched skin.
Sometimes sagging upper eyelids are caused by deflation
The fat around your eyebrows and upper eyelid has a tendency to shrink over decades, leaving you with sagging. So deflation, or fat loss can cause sagging eyelids.
This woman wanted me to remove her sagging upper eyelid skin
This patient wanted an upper blepharoplasty (eyelid lift) to improve the looks of her eyes. Looking back at her photos from 10 years ago, it was clear that she lost fat around the eyes. So this is what we did:
1. A very minimal amount of skin was removed from her upper eyelids
2. Her eyelid crease was accentuated with double eyelid surgery
3. Most importantly, fat, taken from her hips, was added under the eyebrows (fat grafting)
